A brief history
The Donorweb website started as a student project during the dotcom period at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and was the first known ICT initiative for blood donation in Singapore. Donorweb was established to have a web presence for disseminating critical information on blood requirements and reaching prospective blood donors during normal and emergency time periods. Donorweb is a 100% non-remunerated-volunteers-driven initiative, providing support to the operational functions of the Singapore Red Cross Blood Donor Recruitment Programme (SRC-BDRP)
Since the beginning, the vision of Donorweb was to introduce a web-based platform to link the blood donors and the SRC-BDRP. In time, this goal was slowly expanded to include targeting to become a one-stop interactive & educational portal where current and future blood donors can come online to learn, discuss, and also educate their peers. Over the years, Donorweb has managed to achieve these objectives with varying degrees of success by building several online systems to replace paper-based systems. The short-term objective of Donorweb is always to use current technologies that will not only enhance the web portal but also the user experience; currently Web 2.0 technologies are being rolled out.
In essence, Donorweb in collaboration with its stakeholders and other participating organizations is striving to provide a dynamic platform for disseminating critical information to people and enable information exchange among key healthcare agencies.
The people behind it
Here are some of the present and past team members.
| Krishnan | |
| Louis | Webmaster and Forum Administrator Louis has been with the Donorweb team since 2002. Having a keen interest in blogging and, later, standards-based website design, he has contributed to the transformation of early-days Donorweb from a series of html pages to a self-hosted content management system (originally using MovableType but shortly to WordPress). In the process, he has learnt much about Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash, CSS, Google Apps and most recently Google visualization tools. |
| Joo Heng | Forum Moderator Joo Heng has been with the Donorweb team since 2004. He is a vegetarian blood donor, and usually donates platelets. |
